No Extra Documents? The "CNIC-Only" Rule for Court Marriage in Karachi

In the age of digital bureaucracy, many couples fear they need a mountain of paperwork—property deeds, parents’ permission letters, or neighborhood NOCs—to get married.

The truth is simple: Under the laws of Pakistan and the latest 2026 directives of the Sindh High Court, the only documents mandatory for a valid court marriage are your basic identity proofs. At Taxocrate (Qanoon Group), we strictly follow the law to ensure your privacy and legal security with zero unnecessary paperwork.

1. The “Golden Three” Mandatory Documents

To solemnize your Nikah and register it with the Union Council/NADRA, you only need to provide:

  • For the Couple: Original CNIC (Computerized National Identity Card). If a CNIC is unavailable, a valid Passport or NADRA B-Form is legally sufficient.
  • For the Witnesses: Two adult witnesses with their original CNICs. (If you cannot manage witnesses, our firm can provide legal witnesses as per the law.
  • Photographs: 4 to 6 passport-sized photographs of the bride and groom.

2. Why Are No Other Documents Required?

Many “agents” or unauthorized registrars confuse couples by asking for extra documents. Here is the legal reality:

  • No Parent’s Consent Required: For adults (18+), the law does not require a father’s or guardian’s signature.
  • No Property Proof Needed: You do not need to prove you own a house or have a specific income.
  • No Residential NOC: You can get married in Karachi even if your permanent address is in Lahore or Islamabad.

3. The Exception: When Do You Need Extra Paperwork?

The law only requires additional documents in two specific scenarios to ensure the marriage is 100% legal:

  1. Second Marriage: If either party was previously married, a Divorce Certificate or a Death Certificate of the late spouse is required.
  2. Foreign Nationals: If one partner is not a Pakistani citizen, a valid Visa and a Passport are mandatory.

4. Protecting Your Privacy with Taxocrate

Because we are a 40-year-old law firm, we understand that “Minimum Documentation” means “Maximum Privacy.”

  • Confidential Filing: Your documents are used only for official registration with the Union Council and NADRA.
  • Legal Scrutiny: We verify your age (18+) using the NADRA Verisys system to ensure your marriage is bulletproof against the Sindh Child Marriage Restraint Act, and the   Muslim Family Laws Ordinance, 1961, which regulates marriage, divorce, polygamy, and inheritance, alongside the West Pakistan Family Courts Act, 1964,
